Assorted images from vols. 3-4 of Tetsuro Ueyama’s ‘Lampo-The Hypersonic Boy’.

Most people have probably heard of Ueyama from his manga, Faust the Metal Guardian, which was reprinted by Viz in the 90s.

I’m in a camp of people who were put onto ueyama by lesean thomas, specifically the work on his most recent series Solevision Mitsuyoshi.

The art of Solevision is masterful, to say the least, but by the fourth volume any pretense of a story is thrown out the window as volume by volume the main female characters fight to the death wearing less and less clothing…and in the 4th volume the characters fight completely nude. I’m not complaining, its just kind of surreal.

It’d almost be like Stuart Immonen or Jim Lee deciding to do 600 pages of women’s (nude) mud wrestling comics. Ueyama is better than both of those guys put together though which is saying Alot.

I think in between doing Lampo and Solevision, Ueyama did a few animation gigs. The most notable is an anime called Real Drive: sennou chousashitsu.

I’ll post some art from Solevision later.

These pages have been reblogged so I want to clarify their origin-

Technically, these are throw away sample pages I did in February or March of 2001 over the course of 3-4 days. I never finished them because what I wanted to do in some of the panels were just way over my head.

I spliced the finished panels from 2-3 pages together

It should be noted I’ve Never done any official Authority work. Any images you suss up online are unsolicited samples/practice pages

2002-2003 sketchbook

When Brian Wood put out his online sketchbook i thought about doing one as well. I have no interest in doing a physical sketchbook, so here is the first of probably 4 collecting disposed drawings from the last ten years.

http://travelforeman.org/2002.cbr (9mb)
http://travelforeman.org/2002.pdf (10mb)

I recommend the CBR format, but if you’re on a Mac and don’t have CDisplay I recommend Xee (image file viewer) that can read rar/cbr image files seamlessly.

I think it would be a good trend to start if everyone did a downloadable year end blog collection.

I don’t think anyone has time to keep track/up to date on the Hundreds of great artblogs online and I think it would be great to be able to zip through sites during the holidays and download everyone’s virtual sketch/artbooks.

If you think its a good idea too then pass the word.

I really, really hated working on Ares. I’m surprised I don’t have 100 sketches like this on those pages.
